1. Pick a Proper Format for Your Copywriting CV
Your job is to pick the right words to make the brand heard.
But you know no copy is good enough to make up for poor UX and sloppy design, right?
Sure, the words on a CV for copywriting jobs matter, but good formatting is just as important.
Here are the most important CV layout rules to keep in mind:
- Create a legible CV heading with your personal details. Include the link to your online portfolio.
- Divide your CV into sections with headings that stand out.
- Pick one of the standard formats for your CV: usually, the reverse-chronological format is the one that works best.
- Choose a nice, elegant CV font. Stick to the classics, such as Arial, Verdana, Georgia, Helvetica, or Bookman Old Style.

- Who are you?
- What can you offer to the employer?
- What are your career goals?
The way you answer will be different depending on your experience. So if you’re an experienced copywriter, use this approach:
- Make a list of your professional strengths, considering all of the experience and skills you have that make you a master of your trade.
- Then read the job advert and match 3–4 points from your own list to the skills and experience set out in the job requirements.
- Use these points to write a CV summary targeted to the job in question.
And if you’re just starting out and lacking in experience then use this approach.
- List any experience and skills you already have and highlight anything that’s relevant to a copywriter role. Consider previous jobs of any kind and your education too.
- Then combine this existing experience and skill set with passion for the job, and some knowledge of the employer to show you’ll be a good fit.
