Ringing up hundreds of customers everyday takes a whole lot more than asking “cash or credit?”. Explain that to the HR manager with your cashier job description for a resume.
Put yourself in the hiring manager’s shoes. What would you want to see in a cashier resume?
Experience, right? As long as an applicant has had a customer service role in the past, the coast is clear, right? Everyone knows what being a cashier is like, so it doesn't matter how you describe your previous cashier experience.
Well...Hate to break it to you, but the store manager has a stack of resumes to look through, and some of those applicants have even more experience repeating “the customer is always right” than you.
Don’t worry though. Customer satisfaction is the motto, so here’s a guide to satisfy the hiring manager with a perfect cashier job description for a resume.

Good news or bad news first? Let’s get the bad news over with. The bad news is that cashier jobs are expected to decline thanks to the development of cashier-free stores like Amazon Go. The good news is that cashier positions are still easy to find thanks to frequent cashier job turnover. That means if you can write a great cashier job description for a resume, you can get a better cashier job or use your cashier experience as a stepping stone to jobs like customer service representative, sales associate, and receptionist. So how do you describe a cashier job on a resume? Find out by following these tips:
Describe your relevant work experience in a section with one of the following titles: Experience, Work History, Work Experience, or Employment History. You can use bold or CAPITAL letters to be extra noticeable.
Put your job experience section towards the top of your resume, right below your resume summary, if you’ve had customer service experience. If you’ve never been a cashier before and you’re writing a resume for your first job, list any relevant experience you’ve had whether it was a part-time job or volunteering.
Use the chronological resume format by starting with your current or most recent job and then go backwards.
Start each cashier job description with your professional job title, company, location, and dates you worked.
Go above and beyond just describing your cashier duties and responsibilities. Instead, use this space like a list of accomplishments. If you have a long list of work experience, describe older positions with less detail and fewer bullet points.

Create a master list of your resume skill set and then mention the skills most needed for the job posting you’re applying for. For example, if you have experience as a waiter, you can highlight the customer service skills that position required.
Use the best action words for resumes, such as served, contributed, assisted, delivered, etc., to show you can handle anything a customer throws at you (metaphorically).
If you want your resume to stand out from the cashier crowd, you need to make yourself memorable. Consider adding key achievements to each of your previous jobs to show you’re not like the rest of ‘em. If you want to really impress, use the Problem-Action-Result (PAR) method.
