How to Write a Political Science Resume?

You’ll be happy to learn that writing a resume is easier than distinguishing between astroturf and grassroots movements. But before you can start writing, you must choose the resume format that suits you best. Go for the reverse-chronological resume if you have a conventional career, or consider a skill-based resume or a combination resume format if you have gaps in your work history or you’ve changed professions. Then, follow the instructions below and start filling out your resume.

Here’s how to write a political science resume in 10 steps:

  1. Make a political science resume template by choosing appropriate resume fonts, setting resume margins to 1 inch, and arranging resume sections in a logical order (or use one of the modern resume templates that can handle this for you.)
  2. Add resume contact information to the header area of your resume.
  3. Introduce yourself on the resume with an attention-grabbing career summary or career objective.
  4. Make a work experience section with information about your most relevant jobs (or internships if you’re writing an entry-level resume.) Use bullet points on your resume to list your job responsibilities and career accomplishments.
  5. List your degree on a resume in the education section. You may also add information about extracurricular activities on a resume, as well as brief mentions of relevant coursework, scholarships, awards, etc.
  6. Select a few political science skills for a resume by combining professional skills with interpersonal abilities.
  7. Pick additional information for your resume, such as your volunteer experience, interests and hobbies, or language skills. A resume with academic or personal projects will do just as great.
  8. Make sure your resume fits on one page—use a two-page resume format only if you have extensive work experience.
  9. Proofread your resume and go through a resume review checklist or use a good online resume checker to see if everything is fine.
  10. Save your resume in a PDF unless the job advertisement asks for a different file type.

If you have an old resume, don’t be tempted to send it as it is. Employers can spot lazy candidates from miles away. Try to edit your existing resume instead.

If you need more detailed instructions, don’t worry—we’ve got an in-depth guide on writing resumes. Check here: How to Make a Professional Resume?
